Food & Restaurant Photography Guides

10 food photography guides cover what restaurants, bars and hotels need before a shoot in London: how to brief a food photographer, what menu photography needs for print versus delivery apps, and whether Reels beat static shots for footfall. Written from early sittings shot before service starts, each guide answers one practical question so the shoot runs to time and the room still looks right.

What’s in this category

Ten guides, part of all photography and videography guides, cover restaurants, bars, hotels and the drinks side of hospitality: how to brief a food photographer so the shoot doesn’t run long, what menu photography needs for print versus a delivery app, whether Reels or static shots do more for a restaurant’s Instagram, and how to shoot an empty dining room so it still looks like somewhere people want to sit. Most of this comes from early starts, dining rooms shot before service, drinks shot before the ice melts.

briefing a food photographer is worth reading before any shoot, restaurant or otherwise. Instagram Reel formats for restaurants is the one to send your social media person, and it says plainly that Reels beat a static grid for footfall right now. Both sit above restaurant photography from £400, and current 2026 prices covers video and stills together.

Message the venue name and preferred morning through the contact page and I’ll hold a slot within one working day. Early sittings before 9am work best for empty-room shots.

Frequently asked questions

How much does restaurant photography cost in London?

Restaurant and food photography starts at £400, with restaurant videography from £600 if you want Reels or a short film alongside stills. Drinks and menu-specific shoots usually sit within the same day rate. The final figure depends on how many dishes and rooms need covering.

How long does a restaurant photography shoot take?

Most food shoots run half a day to a full day depending on the number of dishes, though a menu refresh with ten to fifteen items can often be done in a few hours. Empty-room interior shots are quickest early, before service starts and natural light is still even.

Do I need video as well as photos for social media?

Not always, but Reels and short vertical clips are currently outperforming static posts for restaurant accounts, so it's worth adding if your following is under-served on video. Photography alone still covers a menu, website and press needs perfectly well. Add video when the goal is specifically social growth.

Can you shoot drinks and food in the same session?

Yes, though drinks are best shot fresh, so I'll usually do them first or hold ice separately until the last minute. Cocktails photograph differently to plated food, needing different lighting for glassware and condensation. Tell me the full list in advance so I can plan the order on the day.
