Areas I cover in West London
West London runs from Kensington to Ealing, and I shoot across all of it. See every area I cover across London for the wider picture. Kensington gets more of my bookings out here than anywhere else: corporate headshots near the museums, family portraits in Holland Park, the odd wedding at a townhouse on one of the stucco terraces off Kensington Church Street.
Chelsea is mostly interiors and the occasional wedding: King’s Road shops for social content, mews houses with barely room to swing a 24-70, let alone set up a tripod. Notting Hill means Portobello Road, which is a poor choice for a formal shoot on a Saturday and lovely on a quiet Tuesday morning. Fulham is family work along the river, near Bishops Park. Hammersmith is mostly corporate and event jobs around the Broadway, where roundabout traffic makes drop-off timing tight.
Richmond is the one place out here I would happily shoot all day. The park gives real depth without dodging pedestrians, and the light off the river in the evening is worth the drive. Chiswick is quiet and leafy, good for newborn and family sessions. Ealing has more studio and corporate work than people expect, partly thanks to Ealing Studios up the road.
What I shoot most in West London
Property and interiors are the biggest single category out here, by a distance. West London has a dense mix of period conversions, mansion blocks and new-build riverside flats, and agents need turnaround fast, so I deliver property photography within 24 hours. Family and newborn work comes second; the parks and gardens give me backdrops I do not get around Shoreditch.
Weddings are smaller in number but bigger in value: a handful a year, usually a register office or a private house rather than a large venue. Corporate and headshot bookings cluster around Kensington and Hammersmith, where there is more office space than in Chelsea or Notting Hill. Outside these four categories, West London bookings touch most of the full range of services I offer at some point.
I do not think every property listing needs a photographer. A well-lit phone photo is fine for a room-share advert under £800 a month. It’s the £1,500-plus flats and anything going to a print brochure where professional photography earns its fee back.

Leighton House has a tiled Arab Hall that photographs beautifully, but some rooms do not allow flash, so check before you book a shoot there. Chelsea Physic Garden charges for private hire and shuts early in winter, which catches people out on shorter days. Fulham Palace’s courtyard is popular for small weddings, but vehicle access is limited, so kit has to be carried in. Richmond Park closes its gates at dusk and shuts sections during the autumn deer cull, which can scrap an evening shoot with no warning.
Venue rules change between venues, between rooms, and sometimes between one booking and the next. I always confirm the current policy directly with the venue rather than assume last year’s rule still applies.
Getting there: travel, parking and timing
ULEZ covers the whole of West London now, so my vehicle is compliant and it costs you nothing extra either way. See prices with travel included for the full breakdown. The Congestion Charge zone does not reach most of West London; it stops well short of Kensington and Chelsea, so that’s one less thing to budget for out here.
Parking is the real obstacle, and it varies sharply by area:
- Kensington High Street and most of Chelsea: permit-only, with double red lines on the main roads. I load in from a side street and carry kit the rest of the way.
- Chiswick and Ealing: usually meter or pay-by-app, and noticeably easier than the centre.
- Near a tube station: sometimes quicker to travel by Piccadilly or District line than to drive and circle for a space.
For property work I arrive thirty minutes before the booked time to check the light and clear obvious clutter from the shot. For weddings, I build in an extra hour for whatever the M4 is doing that day.
Recent work in West London
A two-bedroom conversion in Chiswick, shot at 8am to catch the light before it flattened out. The client wanted it listed the same afternoon. A small wedding at Chelsea Old Town Hall, twenty guests, no second shooter needed.
Six headshots and some corridor shots for a startup near Hammersmith Broadway, wrapped in under two hours. An engagement session in Richmond Park in October, rain forcing us under the trees for most of it, which turned out better than the plan. See more of this recent work across London.
